Easy to fill, Easy to clean. I cut the hose in half and added an inline filter so that I could use this to filter out dirty water while backpacking. It worked like a charm!
Solid quality. Comes with free doorag. No leaks.
I did it. I got the full 2 liters in it. It does take some skill, and usually some luck. This bag is actually one of the easier ones to do it with. Here's how I did it.
Laid the bag flat on the side of the sink. Palms facing towards you, wedge your middle fingers between the bag and the big black ring. Half the bag weight is supported by the sink side, half by your hands. If needed, curl your right thumb in and out of the opening to poof the bag out.
As the bag fills, you need to direct your focus on the imaginary plane created by the opening. This plane MUST be flat (parallel to the sink/floor) . Imagine you have a piece of cardboard over the opening and you are trying to keep a bouncy ball from rolling off it. That's good training, come to think of it.
Top: don't fill it to where the water overflows. We need to leverage gravity to let the cap to drop in. If it's too full it will float. You would just slosh the extra water out anyway trying to screw it.
The middle fingers maintain the level plane, while my index fingers and thumbs position and screw the cap. This bag makes it easier than many because the handle allows you to use your ring and pinky fingers to help steady the plane.
In the Backcountry, you'll be submerging the bladder in a creek, and 1 liter would be a good take for a novice.
I bought this to go in my 40L Orca backpack. I took it on a camping trip this weekend with my sons’ Cub Scout pack and had enough water for a 5 mile hike up and down a waterfall. The night before we went out, I soaked it in the sink to prepare it, as per the instructions, then I filled it and stuck it in the refrigerator so it was cold in the morning. It stayed pretty cool even after being out of the refrigerator for hours. There was no perspiration from the bag to make my backpack wet. It shape conforms nicely. No funny plastic aftertaste. Just follow the directions and prepare it properly before using it. I haven’t used it enough to test its durability however it seems to be well constructed and I do believe I’m going to get years of use out of this product. I plan on purchasing more for my sons’ backpacks once they come in.
I have ordered this hydro bag on two occasions, and have been happy with the product. I would buy again if needed. What really impressed me, is that one of them began to leak at the seamline, and a short note to the seller, and a photo was sent to ask for a replacement. In a matter of days, I had a replacement bag at my address, and I didn't need to order it, or return the old one. I was very impressed with the service and backing of their product!
